The Moment

Lemme tell you a story....

A kid plays quarterback for arguably one of the 10 best teams in the entire country as a 13 yr old.

He gets accepted into Notre Dame Sherman Oaks because it's a high school football national POWERHOUSE.

He then decides that he no longer wants to play football, because his real love is basketball.

Madness ensues.

A dad riled out of his mind. A school, that will never admit it, upset.

The conversations of "reality" happen.

"Son, you could absolutely play TE in the NFL someday if you choose this. 6-5, the softest hands ever. You know when to 'sit down' in zone coverage and find space. You block your ass off. WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING?!"

The answer....

"I love basketball, pop."

And so it begins.

As a Freshman, he dominates.

And in the same breath as a Sophomore, he tears his miniscus in summer hoop league and he doesn't play all year. But is STILL voted as captain because he's THAT kind of kid.

The love of the game. The desire to make everyone around him better.

This year, as a Juinor he is essentially "held back" because he didn't play the year before.

But after averaging a double-double this entire year, he's asked up to the Varsity for a playoff run.

I know this is gettin lengthy, but Boston, you deserve the shout out.

Your commitment, and perserverance to what you love is inspiring, and I could'nt be prouder as a father.

I have no idea what it's like to essentially blow out my knee and KEEP fighting for what you love.

You honestly inspire the shit out of me all the time.

There is nothing you can't do.

I love you.

I love your love for your son. I feel the same way about my dad, he celebrated 17 continuous years of recovery yesterday & I was there to give him his chip. My love of sports comes from him, my path to recovery started with him and in 10 days, I'll have 5 years. unbelievable for a drunk like me.. God is good, He gives us the most amazing people to traverse this Earth with.
God Bless You Shane!
